Friday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 PM – Shabbat service with special guest speaker author Alica Fruhwaldova

At the Oct. 20 Shabbat service at 5:30 PM, author Alica Fruhwaldova, from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia (Charleston’s sister city), will speak to the congregation about her memoir, “Loves I Have Lost,” a history of her family during and after the Holocaust. She will be a featured author at the West Virginia Book Festival the next day. For more info, visit https://www.kcpls.org/event/wvbf-program-alica-fruhwaldova

Fruhwaldova was born just after the Second World War to a Jewish couple who survived the Holocaust by living in a cave outside the city. Her memoir tells the story of how her parents survived, and her own story of growing up Jewish without any extended family. It was written primarily for her grandchildren, and the extended family which she never had. She will speak to the congregation in place of a Devar Torah that evening.
