Dinners, Seders & Celebrations

We have many occasions to gather as a congregation and enjoy fine food! From Oneg sweets, Torah study schmears, Sisterhood brunches, luncheons and potlucks to our annual Break-the-Fast, Sukkot Pizza Party, Hanukkah Latke Dinner, Purim Hamantashen, Passover Seder, and Congregational Dinner Meeting.

Leora May Book Club

New members are always welcome! The group likes reading a variety of genres, and most selections are available in paperback, e-book or at the library. Book Club typically meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at Edgewood Summit. Check the calendar for dates, book selections and possible schedule changes.

Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Temple offers free Wi-Fi access throughout the building enabling the use of personal laptops, tablets and smartphones for accessing the internet.

Libraries

The Temple Library is an important resource for information as well as a nice place to sit and relax. In addition to the many books and periodicals, there is a desktop computer with a printer available to all members. We also invite you to explore the Jordan Library and Children’s Library located in the Education Wing.

Meeting Space for Temple Functions and Outside Groups

Temple Israel offers a variety of spaces for meetings, dinners, conferences, concerts, and functions of Temple members and outside groups. The facility includes an industrial kitchen, gymnasium/social hall, stage, sanctuary, chapel, library, Sisterhood lounge, classrooms, basement recreation area, courtyard, and a large front lawn.

Garden

The Courtyard Garden is accessible through the front foyer of the Temple. It provides year round beauty with its lush plantings and changing color. The front lawn of the Temple overlooks the Kanawha River. We held our 4th of July Picnic under the shade of one of the huge oak trees on the property.

Kanawha River Walking Path

The Temple is located just across the boulevard from the Kanawha River. Join the many who walk, run or bike the path which runs along the river from the East End the Westside look here now. Heading west from the Temple, you can take in the Capitol, Haddad Park, Downtown, and Magic Island. Cross the Downtown Bridge to reach the Carriage Trail entrance.

Accessibility & AED Defibrillator

For the accessibility and comfort of all our members and guests, we have a ramp at the front building entrance and an accessible restroom in the classroom wing. Two ramps either side of the Sanctuary to the bimah provide everyone access the Ark and for aliyot. An AED Defibrillator is located in the Social Hall next to the stage, and phones for dialing 911 are located in the office, library, Sisterhood lounge, and the room between the kitchen and chapel foyer.
