Federated Jewish Charities of Charleston Advanced Gifts Event

Rachel Levy (Jewish Federations of North America) Is Our Keynote Speaker

Rachel had the opportunity to travel around the world this past year.  She spent time meeting the seniors at the Jewish community center in our sister city in Tbilisi, Georgia; played with the children at-risk in Minsk, and spent Shabbat with the active Jewish community in Havana.  The pandemic put these communities at great risk because they already had shortages of food and medicine last year.  Rachel will discuss how Jewish Federation has been able to continue providing humanitarian aid around the globe to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry.

Rachel has served as our Regional Director for the Jewish Federations of North America since 2011. In May, Rachel became the Interim National Director of the Network of Independent Communities and has been speaking to small Jewish communities from Charlottesville to Duluth to Fresno.  In addition, Rachel organized a Virtual Mission to Israel this summer for hundreds of participants across North America and has developed regional and national programs to create a more active virtual Jewish community for hundreds of people in Network communities.

She will join us on Zoom to share pictures from her trips and discuss how the most vulnerable Jews in Israel, the former Soviet Union and around the world have been impacted by the pandemic.
